Marion Sheriff’s Office Investigates Alleged School Threat

Officers from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office acted quickly after receiving a tip of a “possible threat of violence” at a Marion County High School on Tuesday. The tip was received via the Marion County Sheriff’s Office tip411 app shortly after 11 PM Tuesday night.

Using the information from the submitted tip, deputies investigated the claim and determined that no threat against the schools existed. The school administrators were involved throughout the process, being notified of the tip when it was received and were later notified when the investigation concluded.

“The purpose of the partnership with the schools and the tip411 app was done in an effort to help school administrators and law enforcement provide a safe environment for our students in Marion County schools,” Sheriff Bailey stated. “Our students can be the eyes and ears and assist us in keeping a safe learning environment. They can do so without fear of retaliation by using the app, which allows them to provide us with information anonymously.”

“tip411” is an app designed to be utilized by students to provide information to school administrators and law enforcement about threats and offenses such as bullying, violent threats, drug use, suspicious activity, and other such acts. Providers of tips can remain 100% anonymous when sending a tip while conversing with officials.

tip411 text leads to two arrests, loaded gun in A.C.

An anonymous text led to two arrests and the recovery of a gun and drugs, Atlantic City police said.

Jorge Herrera, 18, of Atlantic City, had a loaded handgun and marijuana when police arrested him after witnessing a drug deal Wednesday, Sgt. Kevin Fair said.

A text about drug sales to the city’s tip411 anonymous texting service led Detectives Will Herrerias and Jeffereson Rivera to the 2300 of Arctic Avenue, where they saw Herrara and another man in a drug deal, according to the report.

Jose Diaz, 38, of Atlantic City, left in a vehicle and was immediately stopped and taken into custody after he was found in possession of marijuana, Fair said.

The detectives then saw Herrera leaving a residence and took him into custody.

He was found in possession of a handgun loaded with hollow-point ammunition, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Fair said. A search of his residence turned up more marijuana for a total of 210 grams.

They also recovered a scale, baggies and $503 in cash.

Diaz was charged with possession and released on a summons.

Herrera is jailed on charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute, possession with intent to distribute in a school zone, possession of a weapon while committing a drug offense, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of hollow-point ammunition and possession of drug paraphernalia.

York City Police Arrest Suspect Wanted for Questions After Receiving Anonymous Tip

York City Police on Friday, April 27, arrested a man wanted for questioning in the shooting death of 18-year-old Nylik Roger Moore.

An anonymous tip led police to West Manchester Township, where Shanquay Ritter was picked up during a vehicle stop about 7:45 p.m., according to a city police news release.

Ritter, 21, of York City was wearing a bulletproof vest and in possession of cocaine at the time of his arrest, police state.

Tip leads to N.H. fugitive in South Carolina

Anonymous tips led to the arrest of New Hampshire “Fugitive of the week” Wesley Barkley in South Carolina.

Barkley, 32, was arrested without incident by the U.S. Marshals fugitive task force at a residence on Foxfire Road in Cowpens, S.C., according to the U.S. Marshals Service in Concord.

Barkley, is now in custody at the Spartanburg County Jail as a fugitive from justice based on the outstanding N.H. warrant. Barkley is expected to return to New Hampshire in the near future, the Marshals said.

As part of the “Fugitive of the Week” poster, the Marshals include multiple ways to communicate with investigators in an effort to develop information on these fugitives. Since 2014, one method is through anonymous emails and text messages through a system developed by the company, Citizen Observer called Tip411. It was through that anonymous messaging service that the task force received a half dozen tips pointing investigators to Barkley’s location in South Carolina. The anonymous messaging service has proved itself countless times as an invaluable tool for the NH Joint Fugitive Task Force, the Marshals said.

Barkley was featured as the “Fugitive of the Week” on April 18. Barkley was wanted on an outstanding Rockingham County arrest warrant for failure to appear on a charge of assault on a minor. The wanted poster also indicated that Barkley had an extensive criminal history, had been known to resist arrest and may carry a handcuff key on his person, according to the Marshals.

The “Fugitive of the Week” had been aired on WTPL-FM, WMUR-TV, The Union Leader, The Nashua Telegraph, The Patch, Foster’s Daily Democrat, Manchester Information, the Manchester Ink Link and prominently featured on the internet. The “Fugitive of the Week” has been a very successful tool that has resulted in the location and arrest of numerous fugitives since its implementation in 2007, the Marshals said. Additionally, the “Fugitive of the Week” is distributed statewide to all law enforcement officers.

Tip leads to Atlantic City heroin, cocaine arrest, cops say

A city man was arrested Wednesday after officers followed an anonymous tip and found him in possession of 285 bags of heroin and five grams of cocaine, police said.

Farod Chapman, 22, was arrested with 35 bags of heroin and 5 grams of cocaine just after 1 p.m. by Special Investigation Section detectives, police said in a statement.

Detectives recovered 250 more bags of heroin in a search of Chapman’s vehicle after Detective Brian Hambrecht’s K-9 partner Nikki, a narcotic detection dog, indicated the presence of drugs.

Chapman is charged with two counts each of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school zone and possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of a public zone.

He was released on a summons with a future court date.

Sgt. Richard Andrews and Detective Nick Berardis led the investigation. Detectives received information about Chapman distributing narcotics from tip411, an anonymous text service provider.
