City of Tampa Encouraging Residents & Visitors to use “SafeTampa” App for Super Bowl LV

The City of Tampa, Tampa Police, and the Tampa Bay Public Safety Joint Information Center launched a new app and anonymous tip system to help residents and visitors to the bay area report suspicious activity and more during Super Bowl LV.

Developed by tip411, the SafeTampa app puts a powerful new tool into the hands of community members of all ages and is available for download for free via the Google Play Store or iTunes App Store.

“Working together, we can make the bay area safe for everyone,” said Chief Brian Dugan of the Tampa Bay Police Department. “If you see something, say something.”

The new SafeTampa app enables the public to share anonymous tips about suspicious activity, human trafficking, drug use/abuse, domestic violence, and more while allowing law enforcement to receive the information and respond back in real-time to create an anonymous two-way conversation.

“Our system has been used successfully by many agencies to combat crime, illegal drug use, human trafficking, and more,” said Terry Halsch, President of tip411.  “The City of Tampa is on the cutting edge of how technology can be used in high profile events like the Super Bowl to help gather important information and enhance public safety.”

The SafeTampa app and tip411 anonymous text a tip system are 100% anonymous, as the technology removes all identifying information before officers see the tips and there is no way to identify the sender.

Those without a smartphone can share information with police by sending an anonymous text tip via their cell phone to police by texting keyword SAFETAMPA and their message/tip to 847411 (tip411). Anonymous web tips can also be submitted online at www.tampa.gov/police.

Community Alert Helps Delhi Police Identify Suspects with Public’s Help

On January 6, 2021, Delhi Township Police used the community alerting feature of their tip411 system to reach out to members of their community directly seeking information to help identify a pair of theft suspects.

Thanks to tipsters providing information back to the department using the anonymous tip portion of their tip411 system, police were able to identify both individuals and receive signed warrants for them within a week. 

Delhi Police then sent another alert through their tip411 system back to the community to thank them and let them know that the tips had led to the identifications.

tip411 Helps Atlantic City Police Arrest 95 Rioters and Looters

“On May 31, 2020, a protest turned into an hours-long rioting and looting event in the Center City business district of Atlantic City.  The ACPD formed a Riot Investigation Team that reviewed thousands of hours of public and private camera coverage from the area and, on June 30, 2020, we released 219 images to the public asking for assistance in identifying those responsible for committing criminal acts,” Atlantic City Police Sergeant Kevin Fair said.

He added “It was our mistake that we released the images toward the end of the day – because within an hour of the release, we received so many anonymous tips through tip411 with information that we had to call investigators back to work that night to review and respond.”

In the end, 95 individuals were identified and were criminally charged.

According to Sgt. Fair, “The efforts of our detectives would have been in vain if not for tip411.  Having the ability for the public to anonymously text and easily provide information is an asset to any police department.”

Atlantic City PD has partnered with tip411 since 2012 to help better connect with their community to help fight crime.

In an urban environment, getting community members to openly talk with police officers or provide their information is a daunting task.  tip411 allows law enforcement to hear from these individuals that we would not have otherwise been able to communicate with.

Anonymous Tip Leads Cambridge Police to Make Arrest & Recover Stolen Property

Cambridge, Massachusetts Police shared on their Twitter account that, as the result of a Cambridge resident sharing an anonymous tip via tip411, a man who was walking down Massachusetts Avenue with a large backpack checking on unlocked car doors was stopped and identified by Officers.

This tip came in and was received and responded to in near real-time to send officers to the area.

The suspect was found with stolen property and arrested due to outstanding warrants.

Anonymous tip line established for Ward County, North Dakota

Members of the public can now communicate with the Ward County Sheriff’s Department anonymously with text messages through their new Tip411 tip line.

Tips, reports, or messages can now be sent any time of day through text.

Tips can be sent by messaging 847411, the keyword “NDWARD,” and then the information.

You will receive a confirmation message when your tip is successfully admitted, and you can opt out of receiving replies at any time by responding “STOP.”

The Tip411 system removes all identifying information so the tip remains anonymous.

“It’s always good to stay in close contact with the community, and we rely on the community to solve a lot of crime, because we can’t be everywhere all the time and see everything and hear everything. We’ve actually already gotten some tips through it just in the last week,” said Capt. Jason Kraft, Ward County Sheriff’s Department.

The tip line was provided by the North Dakota Department of Human Services.

Kraft said every county in the state now has one through Tip411 for the next five years.
