Poughkeepsie, NY Police Use tip411 to Share Halloween Safety Tips

Helping residents prepare for Halloween this weekend is important, and the Poughkeepsie, NY Police Department used their tip411 system to send community alerts to residents via email and text message with helpful tips to keep safe.

Halloween Tips for Parents

  • Make sure costumes fit well and that they are short enough to prevent tripping.
  • Consider using hypoallergenic make-up instead of masks, which can obstruct your child’s vision.
  • Add reflective tape to costumes and trick-or-treat bags for greater visibility.
  • Make certain costumes are flame-retardant.

Halloween Tips for Homeowners

  • Clear your yard and sidewalk of any obstacles or decorations that may be hard to see in the dark. Check around your property for flower pots, low tree limbs, garden hoses or anything that may be hazardous to young children rushing through the neighborhood.
  • Keep your home well lit, inside and out.

Victoria Police Team Up with 7-Eleven for “Operation Chill”

Think tip411 can only be used to receive tips and share public safety alerts?  Think again.

Departments large and small use tip411 in creative ways to announce programs and events directly to residents:

“Operation Chill is a program that the Victoria Police Department recently became involved in, partnering with 7-11, to create positive police interaction with the youth in our community.

Officers with the Victoria Police Department will be handing out “tickets” to young people in our community who are observed being good citizens.  This can include many things such as riding their bicycle safely with the proper safety equipment, using crosswalks, following the law, helping others, volunteering time in their community, using their manners, or other things that young people do to be good citizens of our community.”

Sheriff’s department’s new app lets residents submit anonymous tips

The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Department is expanding its “crime-fighting arsenal” with a mobile phone app that lets people send anonymous tips, according to a press release.

The “GFSO tip411 mobile app” can be downloaded for free on Google Play Store, iTunes App Store or by visiting the Sheriff’s Office website.

The app removes all identifying information before law enforcement sees the tips. “There is no way to identify the sender,” according to the release.

“In our effort to provide the highest quality service to the community, we wish to keep the public informed and involved,” Sheriff Bob Rost said. “We believe the addition of this new app from tip411 will allow us to do just that while forming a deeper crime-fighting partnership with residents.”

Those without a smartphone can still submit tips through the department’s website or by texting them to 847411.
