Shortly after the deadly school shooting in February in Parkland, Florida, leaders in Onondaga County, NY assembled a task force to address school safety.
The Onondaga County School Safety Task Force was a joint initiative between offices of the Onondaga County District Attorney, Onondaga County Executive, Onondaga County Sheriff, and City of Syracuse Mayor. Local leaders in education, law enforcement, emergency response and government were included on the 59-member task force, which also included parents and students.
One major recommendation by the committe from their 35 page report was that schools employ a tip-based communication program where students and other school-based stakeholders can report concerns to the appropriate channels. The committee recommends using tip411 (page 9 of the report).
