A Safer Joplin: Why Joplin, MO PD is Launching tip411

Joplin, MO Police Department (76 sworn officers) has officially partnered with tip411, a tool designed to break down the barriers between the public and the police.

Joplin Police Chief Richard Pearson says the tool is a way to help resolve crimes in our community. “This will be incredibly helpful to our work and will allow citizens to share critical information, while keeping their identity hidden. People remain anonymous.”

By using tip411, JPD joins over 2,000 communities nationwide that have seen a significant boost in solved cases and improved public trust.

Pearson noted that tip411 has been proven to have good outcomes and those communities received a positive response from their citizens. “We know people want to do the right thing, but unfortunately, their situation may not allow them to do so. tip411 can help with this,” said Pearson.

Officers receiving crime tip information cannot see the reporting person’s identity, location, or IP address. If the person providing a tip so wishes, officers can also have a 2-way conversation with that person without revealing their identity.

“We decided to add this tool to our department because communication is key in all of our cases. This allows more information to be collected, without putting citizens at risk, and can help us do our jobs better. It’s a win-win for Joplin.”

The Joplin Police Department mobile app is available to download for free from the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store. Citizens can also submit an anonymous text tip via their cell phone by texting the keyword “JOPLINPD” and their message/tip to 847411.
