The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Operation Game Thief (OGT) program, (520 sworn officers) recently partnered with tip411 to increase public safety as well as improve community engagement.
tip411 has already proved its effectiveness by providing critical information regarding illegal poaching and protecting natural resources.
“This case highlights how vital the public’s help is in protecting Texas’ natural resources for current and future generations,” Operation Game Thief said in a post. “It was made possible thanks to an individual who saw a crime against our wildlife and reported it through Operation Game Thief via tip411.”
An anonymous tip through tip411 delivered a concise message outlining that someone was illegally shocking fish in the Trinity River and law enforcement were able to respond quickly, locating the person of interest.
This tip initiated the momentum for law enforcement to conduct an investigation, which ultimately led to an individual admitting to the illegal activity and resulted in charges being filed against them.
tip411 is a cutting-edge tool that has demonstrated its capability by making a monumental difference through engaging community members in an easier and more mobile way.
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department mobile app is available to download for free from the Google Play Store and the iTunes App Store. Citizens can also submit an anonymous text tip via their cell phone by texting the keyword “TXOGT” and their message/tip to 847411.
